Circular walk

By Angela Newing

No ringing for Easter Day. What a tragedy!

One of our ringers, who is a keen rambler, decided to go for a long walk instead. He left the church between 8.00am and 9.00am at the time he would normally have arrived for ringing, and when the hands of the church clock were exactly together on the clock face.

He got back between 2.00pm and 3.00pm when the clock hands were exactly opposite each other (ie.exactly 180 degrees apart).  How long had he been away?

Please note, this is not a hard teaser if you do a bit of lateral thinking.
